Duke Roufus was a highly accomplished Muay Thai practitioner and world champion, widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable American experts on the art. His most notable Muay Thai achievement was winning the IKF International Kickboxing Federation Pro Muay Thai Rules World Super Heavyweight Title on December 4, 1998, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, defeating Hiriwa TeRangi of New Zealand by unanimous decision (50–43 on all three judges’ cards). He successfully defended this title just months later on March 19, 1999, defeating Australia’s WKA World Champion Grant Barker in just 39 seconds with a combination of a leg kick, two knees, and a high head kick.
