Episode #1 -At his residence in upstate New York, former president George Mullen is visited by his ghost writer, Anna Sindler, who asks for an update on his memoirs. As Anna leaves, her car is struck by a train at a railroad crossing and catches fire. It is later revealed that the incident was caused by a massive nationwide cyberattack that affects energy, telecommunications and transportation networks, causing disasters that kill thousands. After Mullen delivers an impassioned speech on the disaster efforts in New York City, President Evelyn Mitchell appoints him to head the Zero Day Commission investigating the attack, despite opposition from Mullen's daughter, Congresswoman Alexandra Mullen. Mullen receives intelligence from a former Mossad operative, Natan, that Russia was responsible for the attack. As Mullen boards a helicopter to his office, he realizes his safe has been broken into and confronts what he accuses to be an intruder, before his wife tells him that the person in question is his long-time assistant.
Episode #2 - Mullen is introduced to his colleagues in the Zero Day Commission, while Alexandra is appointed by House Speaker Richard Dreyer to head an oversight committee to monitor the commission. The commission is alerted to the discovery of a hackers' collective found massacred in the Bronx, with the lone survivor being identified as a former National Security Agency employee named Patrick O'Keeffe. Mitchell calls Mullen to say that she would order retaliatory actions against Russia in a live address if the commission fails to produce a lead. Roger Carlson, Mullen's assistant, is visited by a Russian operative who gives him evidence exonerating Russia of responsibility for the cyberattack. Upon learning of this, Mullen contacts Mitchell, who abruptly cancels her scheduled address and aborts the retaliation. Instead Mullen holds a press conference, during which he blames the attack on a radical left wing domestic terrorist organisation called the Reapers, who used a government-created weapon called Proteus to stage the incident. Mitchell calls Mullen to express her disbelief at his announcement, before CIA Director Jeremy Lasch confirms what Mullen has said.
*** GEORGE BUSH SET THESE UP AFTER 9-11 WHICH ESSENTIALLY SUBVERTS DUE PROCESS AND MIGHT BE SUBJECT TO REDEFINING AMERICAN CITIZENS, AT WILL, OF BEING HOME GROWN TERRORISTS. The Establishment's New Public Enemy Number One: Straight White Christian Men (don't think the rest of us won't be corraled into the same group): "If you are a white Christian male who believes in God, the importance of the nuclear family, the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, traditional morality, national sovereignty, the Second Amendment, and limited government, you--and not Donald Trump--are the real target of the 24/7 hate campaign by Establishment media outlets to demonize the President and drive him from office." Excerpts regarding these Military Tribunals:
1) But many experts believe that the law of war covers terrorists, and if they violate the law, they can be tried by tribunal.
2) Other experts, however, argue that the Quirin decision does permit trial by tribunal of even U.S. citizens who enter the country to violate the law of war.
3) Critics of the tribunals argue that their use could set a bad precedent and someday might be used against American citizens denying them the full range of due process protections. Others worry that the use of the tribunals would let the government set up an alternative justice system, largely hidden from public scrutiny that would erode American freedoms and democratic controls.
4) Some also argue that military tribunals could send the wrong message to the rest of the world, showing that America is ready to abandon its longstanding commitment to civil liberties in the face of terrorist threats.
5) The proposal to use military tribunals marks a significant change in government policy concerning terrorism. Instead of treating foreign terrorists as criminals subject to our criminal laws and procedures, the U.S. government now views terrorists as foreign enemies subject to the law of war and trial by military tribunal.
