Omagh: three arrested after senior police officer shot in front of son

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell is described as being “critical but stable” in hospital.

He was shot multiple times as he packed footballs into his car after coaching children at an Omagh sports centre last night.

His young son was with him.

Condemnation of the shooting came swiftly from religious and political leaders in the UK and Ireland.
