Villefranche-sur-Mer, a prestigious city on the CÃ´te d'Azur, offers you as soon as you arrive, whether by the ledges, the sea or the train, a grandiose panorama.

Located 4 km from Nice and 12 km from Monaco, at the foot of a vast amphitheater of hills, it was founded in 1295 and has kept many vestiges of its origin.

Maritime city with a privileged location welcoming the most beautiful units but also a small fishing port... its gastronomy is quite naturally based on fish directly supplied by local fishermen.

History :

The bay of Villefranche has been frequented since Antiquity by Greek and Roman sailors. They use it as an anchorage and give it the name of Olivula Portus. However, the site is the victim of repeated barbaric attacks. In the ninth century, Saracen pirates held a fortress on the site of Villefranche-sur-Mer25. The inhabitants forsake the seaside and take refuge on the heights; they founded another village there, Montolivo.Villefranche Foundation
In 1295, Charles II of Anjou, Count of Provence, understood the strategic importance of this site, located on the borders of his territory. In order to encourage the inhabitants to return to populate the seaside, he granted them a tax exemption. The village is thus baptized Villa Franca.
