Nebuchadnezzar II who is primarily known as the King of Babylon who conquered Judah and Jerusalem, destroying the temple and exiling the Jewish people. He is also featured in the Book of Daniel, where he experiences prophetic dreams and is humbled by God for his pride.
In the Bible, particularly in the book of Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, is referred to as God's servant. This designation highlights God's sovereignty and his use of even pagan rulers to accomplish His purposes. Specifically, the Hebrew phrase "my servant" (????) is used in reference to Nebuchadnezzar in the Masoretic Text of Jeremiah. This phrasing emphasizes that while Nebuchadnezzar was a powerful king, he was ultimately an instrument in God's hands.
Cyrus the Great: Similar language is used in Isaiah 45:1 where God refers to Cyrus the Great, another foreign king, as "his anointed". This further illustrates God's use of non-Israelite rulers.
