In 2002, NASA released the "Blue Marble," a high-resolution, true-color image of Earth's surface.
Robert Simmon is known for his work in visualizing Earth data, particularly the "Blue Marble" images created by NASA. He's often referred to as "Mr. Blue Marble". Simmon played a key role in creating the famous "Blue Marble" image, which is a composite of satellite data showing a detailed, true-color view of Earth.
The image was created by stitching together observations from NASA's Terra satellite, specifically the MODIS sensor, which captured data about the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds.
