Amanda Martinez was arrested for throwing hot soup at an employee of a Sol De Jalisco Mexican restaurant in Temple, Texas, after complaining the soup melted the container lid. The incident, captured on video, resulted in Martinez being charged with assault causing bodily injury. In February 2023, she pleaded no contest to the charge and was sentenced to 15 months of deferred adjudication, six days of jail work release, and an $800 fine.

What happened: Amanda Martinez returned to the Sol De Jalisco restaurant upset that her spicy menudo soup was so hot it had melted the plastic lid of the container. Confrontation: After the manager, Janelle Broland, offered a replacement meal or refund, Martinez continued to make a scene. Assault: Martinez then threw the soup into Broland's face, causing her eyes to burn and her nose to bleed. 

Legal proceedings

Arrest and charges: Martinez was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with assault causing bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor. Plea and sentencing: In February 2023, she pleaded no contest and received a sentence of 15 months of deferred adjudication, meaning she would serve six days of work release instead of jail time. She was also ordered to pay an $800 fine and cover court costs.
