Synopsis of "Les oiseaux dans la charmille" in Les Contes d’Hoffmann

"Les oiseaux dans la charmille," also known as the "Doll Song," is a celebrated aria from Act I of Jacques Offenbach’s opera Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann).

It is performed by the character Olympia, a lifelike mechanical doll created by the scientist Spalanzani and brought to life through dark magic involving the sinister Coppélius.

Hoffmann, the protagonist, becomes infatuated with Olympia, believing her to be a real woman, especially after purchasing special spectacles from Coppélius that distort his perception.
