Sequenced DNA from Egyptian mummies published in the scientific journal Nature revealed that ancient Egyptians were genetically closer to populations from the Levant (during the Neolithic and Bronze ages) and ancient Europeans than to modern Egyptians, suggesting a later influx of sub-Saharan DNA into Egypt following the Roman period and slave trade.
