The first case of a new flu strain has been detected in humans after circulating in pigs, according to the UKHSA.

The strain H1N2 was detected as part of routine national flu surveillance carried out by the UKHSA and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

The government organisation is currently working to find out exactly what characteristics this pathogen has, and how much of a risk it poses to human health. It's not yet known if the strain has the potential to cause a pandemic.
