Join Doug at 9:00 am EST (Thursday, December 30, 2021) as we discuss today's blog title, "Defining God Just However Ol' Way We Want". This wicked phenomena has been happening since the earliest days of history, and how much more so since the second century when Marcion of Sinope unilaterally decided the First (some call it the "Old") Testament God wasn't to his liking and couldn't have been the same God that sent Jesus Christ. In fact, Marcion said the apostles were disqualified because they preached the connection between Jesus and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, so Marcion decided to disengage from them completely and put the authority of the gospel message entirely on Paul (and Luke), calling Paul the ONLY apostle. So it's no surprise that this same error has occurred ever since then and to this day as we have the same epistles attributed to Paul in our Bible as the ones which Marcion fully embraced and endorsed in the first "New Testament" ever put together by him in the second century. He included 10 of the 14 epistles of Paul we use to this very day, and they are in our Bibles all due to his influence. Think about that, Marcion, who called the God that gave us the Ten Commandments a malevolent demiurge, is the main reason the Pauline epistles are in our Bible. So Marcion, like many people who call themselves Christians, made a god in his own image, according to his own liking, but no matter how Marcion tried to define God, God remained true to Himself, He can't be changed, and Marcion and all his followers will be held accountable for this. It's time we stop trying doing what he did and instead prioritize the Words of Jesus Christ above all, and learn to love Him by keeping His commandments - before it's too late.
