Meet Zablon Simintov -- the last and only remaining Afghan Jew in the country of Afghanistan.

As a successful entrepreneur in his early years (carpet trading) -- this man has suffered a lot over the last 25 years. He was sent to prison camps by the Taliban, he got all of his carpet stolen by the Mujahideen overnight ($300,000 USD worth), and his entire family and friends have left him behind for Israel, Europe and the U.S.

But somehow, Zablon has kept up being an Orthodox Jew, and taking care of the only working Synagogue in the country. He practices Shabbat, keeps kosher and speaks Hebrew. As a Jew myself, this has been an absolutely amazing story to hear and we had a connection that I cannot explain.

Also FYI, I found out Zablon yesterday, and booked a last minute flight to Kabul to try and find him (I originally wasn't planning to come to Kabul). I am beyond happy that I did.
