SONS OF LIBERTY is a 1939 American short drama film directed by Michael Curtiz, which tells the story of Haym Solomon. It won an Academy Award in 1940 for Best Short Subject (Two-Reel). In this mini-biopic, director Michael Curtiz shows us the life and death of Salomon (Claude Rains), from his joining the Sons of Liberty (SOL) in 1776 and arrest in New York as a rebel to his spying for General Washington (Montagu Love) while working as a translator for the British. Later, in prison, he met Nathan Hale (Larry Williams) just before the patriot's execution. He then helped SOL leader Alexander McDougall (Donald Crisp) raise military funds and, having sacrificed everything for the war effort, lived in poverty with his wife Rachel (Gale Sondergaard) till his death by tuberculosis at age 44.
