We are told that Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill were selfless champions of freedom, that their cause was righteous, and that all the destruction that followed was both necessary and noble. But that story is wrong. It was written by victors, sanctified by academics, and protected by the media. It has turned flawed men into saints and erased the uncomfortable truths about how the war was provoked, prolonged, and mythologized. IHR Director Mark Weber stands against this flood of distortion. For decades, they have worked to bring honesty back into the study of modern history — to remind the public that truth should never serve power. In his presentation “World War II: New Non-Conformist Views of the ‘Good War,’” Weber delivers a powerful challenge to the official narrative. Drawing on Nicholson Baker’s Human Smoke and Patrick Buchanan’s Churchill, Hitler, and The Unnecessary War, he dismantles the propaganda that still shapes how we view that conflict and its supposed heroes.
