April 28, 1939: Hitler’s Reichstag speech rejected Roosevelt’s appeal, attacked British intentions, and portrayed Germany as a nation surrounded and threatened. It justified German expansion as necessary, framed foreign powers as hostile, and reflected the tense, foreboding atmosphere of Europe on the brink of war.
