Are you a fan of the classic sitcom, Married with Children? It was an outrageous and raunchy show that, at the time, pushed the boundaries of what a family-oriented show should be. They pushed the buttons of audiences all over, which was a positive thing for millions of fans, but a negative thing for others. One notable person who disapproved of the direction of the show was a woman named Terry Rakolta.

In this video, we’re taking a look at her crusade to get Married with Children taken off the air. She managed to turn her outrage from the content of a few episodes into a letter-writing campaign targeted at the CEOs of the show’s many advertisers, and actually influenced their decisions. She somehow convinced them that they should pull their advertising dollars from Married with Children and that if they didn’t she would boycott their products. These companies, perhaps wary of a much bigger incident and bad PR, caved almost immediately to the pressure. It’s a wild story that, these days, feels a little quaint, given the nature of the content on TV in the years since. But back during the heyday of Married with Children, the raunchy and sexy nature of the episodes was something that hadn’t really been seen before. It was literally the first show to ever show someone inside a bathroom! So clearly it was ahead of its time in many ways. We talk about the ramifications of Rakolta’s campaign against the show, and how she managed to get a particular episode pulled off the air before it was ever on. This “lost episode” became the stuff of legend for fans of the show. So check out this video today, as Facts Verse presents: The Controversial Episode That Took Married with Children Off the Air!
