Terror plots. Attacks on Jews and migrants. Extremists infiltrating the security services. All headlines are familiar to historians studying the Germany of almost a century ago. Yet, chillingly, these are present-day news reports.

It has been said that those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Unfortunately, far-right extremism did not end in 1945. It is very much a contemporary problem, and its resurgence in that part of Europe seems particularly shocking in the light of twentieth-century history.

Examining the rise of far-right extremism within Germany as the spectre of Nazism fades from living memory, this sobering FRONTLINE documentary also looks at the measures taken by the authorities to combat this growing menace.
