Blumenau Brazil daycare attack: At least 4 children killed, several injured

At least four children were killed and four others were injured when a 25-year-old man armed with a small axe attacked a pre-school in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina on Wednesday, authorities said.

Police said the man responsible for the attack in the city of Blumenau has been arrested. Local security chief, Marcio Alberto Filippi, told reporters the attacker gained access to the private school by scaling its walls.

Firefighter Chief Diogo said that in addition to the four children killed, four others are under medical care.

The attack, dubbed by President Luiz InÃ¡cio Lula da Silva a "monstrosity," happened nearly a week after a 13-year-old student stabbed a teacher to death and wounded five others in a SÃ£o Paulo school.
