*** Alfred Schaefer from Monika Schaefer: Yesterday (Oct 6, 2025) a dear friend of mine called me from Toronto Ontario to catch up on things. We are having a postal strike in Canada at the moment and she is not online, so she decided to pick up the phone. My friend is a long-time loyal reader of The Barnes Review, and probably has every issue since the beginnings of that excellent publication. She mentioned my "article" in the latest TBR, your expanded issue about the History of Slavery. I received it but had not read it yet, so after we hung up I checked it out and saw that you had printed - in the letters section - my 2025 July 7th email in which I informed friends far and wide that my brother Alfred Schaefer had been arrested and was in jail. Thank you so much for printing that! It was already late in the evening, so I immediately put it at the top of my list of things to do next morning (now today) to write to you. I wanted to compose a brief update for the readers of your next issue in case the news had not reached them yet, that Alfred was released one month later on August 7th. The judge in Augsburg sentenced him to a 10 month prison term, but he determined that Alfred be released and should go home until that verdict became legally binding. It was not legally binding yet, because the prosecution demanded a harsher sentence, and was filing an appeal. Alas! My short update which should have ended right there, now has a sequel: Minutes ago, the phone rang and I saw Alfred's number. It was, however, not Alfred's voice which greeted me. His loyal and lovely wife called to let me know that their home had been raided by the police once again, at 6 o'clock this morning. How could this be, I asked? The judge had released Alfred, and there had been no further proceedings since then. No - it was based on a different set of charges in a different jurisdiction. It was a different case. Here is the story. The court in Munich has been compiling a case against Alfred since quite some time, and they decided that he was a "flight risk" because of the seriousness and extent of his transgressions. The list of accusations to be investigated - all of which are "speech violations" - comprised a 20 page document. After the house search, they took away Alfred's cell phone, his laptop, some USB sticks and of course the man himself -- Alfred Schaefer. He is now in "U-Haft or Untersuchungshaft", which means in jail on remand while they conduct their investigation. Their documents are never signed. Not the arrest warrant, nor the list of charges issued by the judge, nor any other paper-work contained a signature. Perhaps of a more trivial nature: Alfred's wife noted that all the house raids which had been done (and there have been enough to notice a pattern) have been done on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Today is Tuesday. I will post Alfred's mailing address on the Political Prisoners page of both the truthandjusticeforgermans.com and freespeechmonika.com websites as soon as I have that information. I have blind-copied a few people with this update, and I ask you please to feel free to share this email to your lists. And check the websites please.
