*** Dead Confederate soldiers lay where they were killed at the Battle of Antietam. All told, nearly 1 million Americans died in the U.S. Civil War, both military and civilian fatalities. Tens of thousands more were physically and emotionally scarred for the rest of their lives. Who profited? The bankers.
