*** Trump’s Top General Warns of Iran Strike Risks Axios
https://www.axios.com/2026/02/23/iran-strike-trump-gen-dan-caine-vance-rubio
Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine has been advising President Trump and top officials that a military campaign against Iran could carry significant risks, in particular the possibility of becoming entangled in a prolonged conflict, according to two sources with knowledge of those internal discussions … There's an ongoing debate at the top levels of the Trump administration about how to handle the Iran standoff and what the consequences of each option would be. At the moment, several of the voices in Trump's circle are urging caution, though some sources think Trump himself is leaning towards a strike … Caine's position could be particularly influential, because he's Trump's top military adviser and is highly respected by the president. No one is advocating for an invasion or "boots on the ground" military action, the sources said.
*** War on Iran Is the Opposite of ‘Realism’ Andrew Day – American Conservative
https://www.theamericanconservative.com/war-on-iran-is-the-opposite-of-realism/ ...
Realism holds that geography and the relative distribution of military power among states determine national interests. Iran, being a middling power on the other side of the world, does not pose a military threat to America, the world’s leading superpower … The purpose of U.S. foreign policy is to promote the safety and prosperity of Americans, not to turn faraway states into liberal democracies, which we’re not good at doing anyway … From a realist perspective, a U.S. war with Iran seems not merely unnecessary, but obviously foolish … We’re instead careering toward a big war that, if it “succeeds,” will harm America’s geopolitical interests. And if the war is a failure, things might get very ugly indeed … Contemplating a war with Iran fills me with a nauseating dread. President Trump must be urged to listen to reason, and to realism.
