The Sumerians were an agricultural civilization that permanently settled Mesopotamia between 5500BC and 4000BC, developing early cuneiform writing around 3000 BC. They were absorbed into the cultures that they founded, and remembered in their myth as their nobility. Today, academia calls their nobility "Proto-Indo-Europeans".

The Sumerians may have developed the first writing system, divided the day into 12 hours, the hour into 60 minutes, and the minute into 60 seconds. They invented the plow, developed a two-wheeled chariot, and were made up of city-states, each with its own king and gods.
