Chapter 26: SS OFFICERS TORTURED AFTER THE WAR
*** Confessions Were Obtained by Torture at the Dachau Trials Posturing as priests to hear confessions and give absolution, investigators tortured German prisoners by: • Burning matches and driving them under prisoners’ fingernails.
*** Knocking out teeth and breaking prisoners’ jaws.
*** Keeping prisoners in solitary confinement, with near starvation rations for up to five months.
*** Placing a black hood over prisoners’ heads and then punching them with brass knuckles. • Kicking and beating
prisoners with a rubber hose.
*** • Out of 139 German prisoners, all but two had their testicles kicked and crushed beyond surgical repair. — Washington Daily News, reported by American Judge Ed ward L. Van Roden (January 9, 1949)
*** An official U.S. Army photographer captured the cold-blooded executions of SS camp guards at Dachau in late April 1945. According to at least one eyewitness, a U.S. Army captain, the U.S. soldiers forced SS guards to stand in a “Heil Hitler” salute for hours while pouring ice water down their backs before shooting them.
*** Rudolf Höss, commandant of Auschwitz. Höss was a good man, concerned about the welfare of the inmates under his care. Truth mattered not. He was mercilessly beaten and tortured to the point he would have confessed to anything. Bottom, Höss before he was hanged.
